9-euro travel pass in Germany: all you need to know

German lawmakers introduced a discount for the entire country in June, July, and August to offset rising fuel costs and living expenses. The 9-euro travel card is available here.
The new German budget travel pass, which is available starting June 1st for EUR9 ($9.60), can be used all over Germany.

Who can purchase and use the ticket?

Anybody, even non-German citizens and tourists.

Are there any special discounts for children?

Kinder under six years old can travel free on German public transport. Children aged six and over must have a 9-euro ticket. There is no discount.

Is the ticket transferable?

Every travel pass must be signed by the owner. It can’t be transferred or used by any other person.

Where can I purchase the 9-euro ticket?

You can purchase it on the Deutsche Bahn website.

When will the tickets be available?

On May 23, the Deutsche Bahn train tickets went up for sale. These tickets can be used between June 1, 2022, and August 31, 2022.

What time is the ticket valid?

You can use Germany’s public transport network during one calendar month with each ticket. A June ticket is valid for one month from the date it was purchased.
For July and August, you will need an additional ticket.

What bus and train connections are available?

All public transport systems in Germany are allowed. You can use all public transport in Germany, including buses, trams and subways, light rail, regional express trains, light rail, and regional ones.
Other ferry connections between Berlin and Hamburg may also be included.

Dresden (GE) to Decin (CZ)

It’s easy to explore Germany’s Saxon Switzerland, with its stunning sandstone rock formations, by train. You can follow the Elbe River seamlessly from Dresden to Bad Schandau, where many hikers start.You can also go to Decin in Czech Republic, which is a popular place to visit the Czech side.

Hamburg (GE) to Sylt and Aarhus (DE)

For 90 days it will be even easier to reach this famous Frisian island in North Sea. You can take the RE6 from Altona, Hamburg to get directly to the island, which is known for its marshland nature reserves, sand dunes and many outdoor activities. It takes less than 4 hours to complete the journey. From Sylt you can travel to Aarhus, one of Denmark’s cultural hotspots with an outstanding view on North Sea.

Munich (GE) to Trento (IT)

This route will pass from Germany to Austria, through Salzburg and Innsbruck, and arrive in Trento, Italy, in around 5 hours. The landscape is stunning, with an incredible view over the Alps and even a little glimpse of the Dolomites. It’s also an incredible journey if you want to spend some time in Austria.

Moselle River (GE) to Strasbourg (FR)

Another breathtaking train route is to travel along the Moselle river in Germany. You will start in Koblenz, where the Moselle and Rhine rivers meet. From there, you will pass many vineyards and castles as well as picturesque villages such Cochem an der Mosel. Deutsche Bahn operates the Moselle train from Koblenz-Trier. It is more affordable to stop at local wineries along the route due to its low price. From Trier you can easily reach Strasbourg, one of France’s hidden jewels and the seat of the European Parliament.
