Yes. Because the United Kingdom is a country with a visa-free agreement with the EU, its people are eligible for ETIAS, and they must apply for it once it becomes mandatory in 2025. UK citizens, and citizen of the other ETIAS eligible countries will need to apply for ETIAS to travel to Germany or another Schengen country.
UK citizensdo not require visas to visit Germany or any other Schengen country, but they will need an ETIAS visa waiver. The new European Travel Information and Authorisation System, or ETIAS, is a visa waiver programme available to citizens of visa-exempt countriessuch as the United Kingdom. From 2025, it will become compulsory for all eligible travellers to submit an ETIAS application and gain approval before travelling to Schengen zone countries. It is vital to realise that the new ETIAS application isn’t a replacement for the traditional visa system, which exists entirely separately. If you want to live, work or study in Germany, you will need to apply for the appropriate visa.
On public transportation and in health and social care settings, medical grade (FFP-2) masks are required by law. Visitors should bring their FFP-2 masks with them to Germany. If travellers acquire symptoms related to COVID-19 (coughing, runny nose, sore throat or fever) they should contact adoctor or call the 116 117 hotline. In many circumstances, travel guides or hotels can assist. Be aware that certain regions within Germany may declare themselves a COVID-19 hotspot and implement more strict regulations at any given time. These regulations might include mask-wearing in public places or a C-19 certification requirement. The German government will be able to provide you with the latest state-level initiatives.
ETIAS will become operational in 2025, but the specific date is yet to be determined. There will be a six-month grace period to let travellers and border officers acclimatise to the new restrictions before ETIAS approval becomes mandatory for all eligible visitors. However, even if you are travelling during the grace period, it is always a good idea to fill out the ETIAS application form before you depart.
